What is the BMW S58 engine?
The BMW S58 follows the popular S55 found in the BMW F80 M3 (2014-2019), BMW F82/83 M4 (2014-2020) and the BMW F87 M2 Competition (2018-2020).
It essentially takes the B58 – found in most modern BMWs – and gives it more power.

Features of the S58 BMW engine
The S58 stands out because it’s lightweight, revs more freely and produces more power. As much as 510hp more power, depending on the version.
Its main feature is its dual mono-scroll turbochargers along with an indirect intercooler that helps to maximise performance and efficiency.
It also gets an electronically controlled wastegate that helps the turbos be more responsive.
The S58 in its standard form produces 480hp and 549Nm of torque.
Step up to the Competition models and this increases to 510hp and a peak torque figure of 649Nms. But this will vary depending on the model you have.

BMW M3
The BMW M3 is the brand’s flagship performance saloon that produces up to 530hp and 650Nm of torque from its S58.
BMW M4
The BMW M4 is the two-door performance coupé in the range, sitting above the M4 and based on the 4 Series, producing 510hp and 650Nm of torque.
BMW X3M
Despite being an SUV, the BMW X3M packs a punch with 510hp.
BMW X4M
Sharing its engine with the X3M, the BMW X4M also gets 510hp, making it just as outrageous as its SUV sibling.
BMW M2
What makes the BMW M2 so special is that it’s fitted with a de-tuned version of the M3 and M4’s engine, producing 460hp and 550Nm of torque. All in a smaller form factor for extra fun driving dynamics.
