We’re already familiar with China’s MG, and BYD is quickly gaining traction in the UK too, so Leapmotor’s arrival comes at just the right time.

Read on to find out everything you need to know about who makes Leapmotor cars and what the brand has to offer.

What is Leapmotor?

Leapmotor is a Chinese electric car manufacturer with relatively young roots. It was founded in 2015 in Hangzhou, China, and spent its first years establishing itself in its home country before going international.

Core to Leapmotor’s success is that it aims to design everything in-house, including batteries and electric motors, which keeps the costs down for us buyers.

What does Leapmotor mean?

Its name is pretty self-explanatory – Leapmotor wants to make a big leap in electric motoring with lots of tech, built-in AI and impressive battery ranges. All for bargain prices.

Who are Leapmotor cars for?

Leapmotor cars are designed for drivers who want the latest EV tech without paying high prices.

Because it’s a less established brand in the UK, Leapmotor has positioned itself as a budget brand in the UK, so you’ll pay a lot less than something like a Tesla.

Who makes and owns Leapmotor?

Wondering where Leapmotor has come from all of a sudden is a totally legitimate question, but don’t worry, it is an established brand. It’s just not widely known in the UK (yet).

Leapmotor cars are made by Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co. Ltd in Hangzhou, China.

Leapmotor International was formed through a joint venture between its Chinese parent company and Stellantis.

Other Stellantis brands include: Citroën, DS, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Fiat, Abarth and even Maserati.

Where are Leapmotor cars made?

Leapmotor cars are built in the brand’s Jinhua, China factory.

Some T03 models for the European market were produced in Tychy, Poland until March 2025.

Stellantis is looking for alternative suitable European locations.

How big is the Leapmotor factory?

The plant has an annual capacity of over 200,000 vehicles. It operates multiple factories across China, with more expecting to come soon as it expands to other parts of the world.

What is the fastest Leapmotor car?

Leapmotor’s C10 does 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds, though it’s possible future cars could be quicker.

Leapmotor prices and value

Leapmotor is priced to undercut established electric cars in the UK, and it does so with quite a margin.

How much is a Leapmotor car?

  • Leapmotor T03 – £15,995

  • Leapmotor C10 – £36,500

What is the cheapest Leapmotor car?

Leapmotor’s cheapest car remains its smallest, the T03. It’s cheaper than the Dacia Spring, which was previously the cheapest electric car.

Leapmotor reliability and ownership

Early reviews suggest Leapmotor cars offer strong value for money, particularly in terms of standard equipment and making electric cars widely accessible.

The C10 has already received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with strong performance across all four testing categories.

Are Leapmotor cars good?

Abhishek Sampat, Head of Electric Vehicles at cinch, said: “Leapmotor is one of the most exciting EV startups – delivering over 50,000 vehicles in August alone, and is already profitable.”

How reliable are Leapmotor cars?

Leapmotor is still a new brand to the UK, so reliability data is scarce. The company offers a four-year/60,000-mile warranty, which is one year more than the industry average.

It’s the same as you get from Tesla.
