Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

How does a diesel particulate filter work?

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device that is designed to remove soot from the exhaust emissions of diesel engines. It acts by trapping the soot as it passes through the car's exhaust system, stopping it from being released into the air, which is pretty smart. As with any kind of filter, a DPF has to be cleaned on a regular basis, which involves burning the soot off the filter at high temperatures, with a tiny residue of ash being left behind.
