What does a car tracking device do?
A tracking device tracks uses GPS technology to show where a vehicle is at any time, sending that information (using a mobile phone signal) to a central computer server. The device is fitted deep inside a car’s mechanical parts, so it’s not easily accessible by anyone who might want to remove it. It is also sometimes an integral part of the electronics that enable a car to operate, so removing it immobilises the vehicle.
If a car is stolen, an owner or their insurance company can track it down from the signal being sent from the tracker and inform the police, who can recover it.
