Holidays abroad are more expensive than ever. For example, flights to the UK's most popular destinations have risen by as much as 71% since 2022. But airport parking is where savvy travellers can cut their costs.
Our new research reveals that Brits can save over £120 on airport parking this summer. The secret? Look at nearby driveway rentals on JustPark rather than rely on official airport parking.
The study compared parking costs at over 30 major UK airports for a seven-night stay during the school summer holidays, with prices going up to £145 at some locations. That’s more than 83% more than the cost for a local driveway on JustPark.
“It just goes to show that you can make huge savings if you shop around for airport parking this summer. There’s less need to worry about factoring parking into your holiday budget if you can save 80% of the cost by parking on a driveway near the airport” said Sam Sheehan, our motoring editor.
The UK's most affordable airport car parks
Luckily, not all airport parking costs £150 for a week, and there are some cheaper locations – with a healthy spread across the England and a few in Scotland making the top 10.
Teesside International Airport in Durham came out the cheapest of the 30 studied, costing just £45 for seven nights of parking.
Second-place is at the other end of England with Cornwall Airport Newquay costing £48 for the same duration. And the good news for Scotland is that Edinburgh (£54.99), Glasgow (£60.99) and Aberdeen International (£76.99) airports all come in relatively cheap.
Perhaps surprisingly, London Stansted Airport rounds out the top 10 most affordable airports with parking from £80.99 for a week – much cheaper than other London terminals.
“It’s good to see affordable car parking across some UK airports,” said Sam.
“With plenty to think about ahead of a trip already – especially for families – a close, convenient place to park that won’t break the bank ticks another thing off the holiday to-do list.”

Massive savings from local airport parking options
Those who want to save by parking near, rather than at, the airport are in luck. Based on the top 10 biggest savings using JustPark, drivers can save an average of £89.98 (77.51%) for a seven-day stay.
London City Airport has the biggest potential for savings, with driveway parking on JustPark up to £121.50 (83.51%) cheaper than parking at the airport itself.
The study included driveways available to rent on JustPark that were located less than four miles from the airport terminal.
“With package summer holidays now costing 18% more per person on average than during term time, cutting down costs on the less-glamorous part of the holiday is all the more crucial,” said Sam.

"At JustPark, we’ve seen how popular driveway parking near airports has become, particularly for travellers looking to save money without compromising on convenience.
"That said, we also know there’s a huge demand for other services like meet and greet, which get you right to the terminal."
