Dodge reveals its all-electric Charger Daytona SRT concept

After promising to bring us an all-electric muscle car, Dodge has finally teased the Charger Daytona SRT concept, dubbing it the 'future of electrified muscle'.

Straight off the bat, the manufacturer has claimed this EV concept will be much faster 'in all key performance measures' than the V8-powered Hellcat, which is quite something considering the current iteration of Charger is simply bonkers.

We don’t exactly know what kind of power figures the Charger EV will have, but we can certainly expect similar or better horsepower than what we already have, which is in the region of 700hp.

Tim Kuniskis, Dodge CEO, said: “The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept exists because performance made us do it. Dodge is about muscle, attitude and performance, and the brand carries that chip on its shoulder and into the BEV segment through a concept loaded with patents, innovations and performance features that embody the electrified muscle of tomorrow.

“The Charger Daytona SRT Concept can do more than run the car show circuit: it can run a blazing quarter mile. And when it comes to product cycles, it outruns Darwin. Charger Daytona does more than define where Dodge is headed: it will redefine American muscle in the process.” 

The Daytona SRT concept also boasts some impressive features you wouldn’t ordinarily find on a normal electric car. These include a multi-speed transmission with electro-mechanical shifting, and the addition of a very cool ‘Powershot’ button that gives you a sudden boost of acceleration – bringing out the 10-year-old petrolhead in us.

But what might be the most peculiar feature is what Dodge has done with the sound. Normally, a Dodge muscle car would sound incredible thanks to its big V8 engine, but there's no engine in this one.

Instead, Dodge has fitted this concept with a ‘Fratzonic chambered exhaust' that makes it sound like a traditional muscle car by producing grumbles here and there. It’s a very controversial feature that we’re sure you can turn off, but it’s nice to know Dodge doesn't want to completely forget about its roots.

When it comes to its name and looks, Dodge says this concept is inspired by the 1970 Charger Daytona, which was the first NASCAR to hit 200mph – so maybe this will do it too, as the 2021 SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody did.

Inside, the Charger Daytona SRT concept comes with a 12.3-inch screen and digital gauge cluster and a whole range of industry-leading technology, as you’d expect to find in a modern EV.

It’s unknown as to whether this insane electric muscle car will ever make it to production in the UK, so our EV American muscle car pick instead would be the Ford Mustang Mach-E because it’s quick, stylish, great on range, and can be had for a great price here at cinch.
