Mr. Bean's Mini goes electric: Fellten Mini Cooper first look

Is this fully electric classic Mini the start of a new and exciting trend, or is it a step too far?

Converting classic cars to electric is a delicate subject in the motoring world. It's a bit like presenting a hipster coffee to your grandad – they probably wouldn't understand.

But is converting a classic Mini to electric actually a genius idea?

What do you need to know about the Fellten Mini?

Sam's down at Fellten's HQ to find out if converting a British icon into an electric car still means it's fun to drive.

Having retained its lightweight design and nippy ethos, Fellten's Mini creation, as you'll see in the video, is an absolute hoot to drive – even in the pouring rain.

You won't find the same level of tech as in a new Mini Cooper Electric, but you do get regenerative braking, a single-speed automatic gearbox and some newer (but still analogue) dials.

Fellten Mini stats:

  • It weighs five kilos lighter than the original Mini

  • It's more powerful than the original

  • Improved brakes

  • 110 miles of range from a 19kWh battery

  • Full charge in two hours

  • 93mph top speed
