BYD, Leapmotor and Hongqi models among the safest new car brands in Euro NCAP's latest safety test report
)
Independent safety tester, Euro NCAP, has published new safety results, and it's good news for the new Chinese car brands.
The aim is to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of new cars before they go on sale to the public, and we've seen strong results from newcomers BYD, Leapmotor and Hongqi.
Leapmotor, Mercedes and Hongqi lead the way
The top three scoring cars from Euro NCAP's report are the Leapmotor B10, Mercedes CLE Coupé and Hongqi EHS7, all with adult occupant protection figures at 93% and a full five-star rating.
These scores are thanks to solid build quality and a range of onboard safety features.
Other notable five-star scorers include the BYD SEAL 6 Tesla Model Y, Volvo EX90 and CUPRA Formentor.
Dr Aled Williams, programme director at Euro NCAP, said: “It is gratifying to see carmakers pushing for all-around excellence where safety is concerned.
"It may sound like a cliché to say there is no such thing as a bad car because there still is, but certainly, there are more safe cars than ever before."
