New Smart #1 electric car revealed!
Forget Smart's tiny two-door... Smart is back with a four-door SUV
Think of the car brand Smart and what do you imagine? Probably something small and city-focused and quirky. Smart cars were once famous for being so small they could fit sideways into a roadside parking space. But Smart's latest model is a far cry from that because it's a four-door SUV! It's called the #1.
First things first, range. It's good; Smart claims up to 260-273 miles per charge. You can use fast charging, allowing you to go from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes, according to the stats. It's peppy, too, with a top speed of 112mph, thanks to its 272hp electric motor.
To put its size into perspective, it's a similar size to a Ford Focus or Kia Soul and weighs 1.8 tonnes. That's a stark contrast to the popular smart fortwo, which weighs as little as 800kg! But the added weight is due to the #1's big battery, making it similar in weight to other crossover EVs, such as the Vauxhall Mokka-e and DS 3 Crossback.
Smart is a joint venture between Mercedes and Geely (which also owns Polestar, Lotus and Volvo, if you're wondering), with the two powerhouses bringing their creativity together to create a pretty interesting four-door design. The #1 doesn't fall short when it comes to advanced features; it gets a 12.8-inch touchscreen, Beats speakers and driving assistance features like parking assist, blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist.
Prices are yet to be confirmed, but we expect the #1 to start at about £35,000. It's due later this year, although you needn't wait for a shiny EV. cinch already has hundreds of electric cars available in our all-online showroom for outright purchase or monthly payments, so you can make a smart decision (wink) right away.
