Audi A6 Avant e-tron review

Audi has long been a pioneer in the automotive space. Everything it does seems to turn to gold. Just look at the R10 TDI Le Mans race car and R8 supercar for example. These are both highly sophisticated performance vehicles, as is the A6 Avant e-tron – its first foray into electric estates. But how good is it really, and how does it compare to a Porsche Taycan? Read our full Audi A6 Avant e-tron review to find out.

  • Impressive 437-mile range
  • All versions are quick
  • Charges fast

Interior

Our rating: 9/10

Driving position

Being an estate, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron has a low seating position that immediately distinguishes it from taller electric SUVs.

You feel at one with the car, in the sense that you are in it rather than perched on top of it – like a sports car but more comfortable.

The steering wheel and seats offer a wide range of adjustment. This helps emphasise the Avant’s road‑hugging feel, supported by the long wheelbase and its sleek aerodynamics.

It might take some time to adjust to the augmented‑reality head‑up display, but it’s a great option if you want key information to be projected directly into your field of view, reducing the need to glance away from the road.

All-around visibility is strong thanks to the estate’s long, low windows and relatively slim pillars, though the sloping rear end and digital mirrors options can take some acclimatisation.

Tech and features

Audi A6 Avant e-tron trims

–  Sport

– S Line

– Black Edition

– Vorsprung

We’ve driven a lot of new and exciting cars lately, but the interior in this Audi stood out to us for its level of tech and comfort.

It’s one of the most technologically advanced estate cars on sale today, using Audi’s brilliant tech from other cars such as the Q6 e-tron.

Inside, you’re met with a screen‑heavy dashboard that includes a 14.5-inch central screen and an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit. It’s really smooth to use, all the graphics are crisp, and it gives Tesla a run for its money.

You do, of course, get wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as well as a built-in sat-nav and all the other bells and whistles of modern driving.

Top-spec cars come with a third display ahead of the front passenger. It lets them choose music, check navigation and watch videos. It’s a nice-to-have that is rarely used in our experience.

One of the more unique features on this Audi – and one we alluded to earlier – is its digital door mirrors option, replacing traditional glass with exterior cameras that feed real‑time images to displays mounted inside the cabin.

This is to improve aerodynamics, enhance rear visibility and to reduce glare at night – though some drivers may need time to adjust.

Performance

Our rating: 10/10

Electric motors and power

Audi A6 Avant e-tron performance stats

  • Power: 326hp, 380hp or 462hp

  • 0-62mph: 4.5 to 6.0 seconds

  • Top speed: 130mph

  • Driven wheels: Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive

There are three different versions of the electric A6 Avant: e-tron, e-tron performance and e-tron quattro.

Entry-level e-tron cars come with 326hp and a six-second 0-62mph time. Move up to the e-tron performance, and this becomes 380hp and a 5.4-second time. Sitting at the top is the e-tron quattro with 462hp and a 62mph time of just 4.5 seconds.

This is all for the A6, but if you want even quicker performance (yes, there’s more), then you’d want the S6 Avant – it has 551hp and a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds.

But no matter which version you choose, you’re getting punchy performance and rapid acceleration.

Most versions are rear-wheel drive, but quattro variants bring all-wheel drive, which brings better traction and those faster acceleration times we’re seeing.

The motors themselves are a step forward from previous Audi EV systems. They're around 30% smaller and 20% lighter, yet more efficient, thanks to joint Audi and Porsche development bringing us this A6 Avant e-tron and the Taycan.

Handling and ride comfort

The Audi A6 e‑tron Avant is engineered to great over long‑distances first and foremost, and its handling reflects this.

Thanks to the PPE platform (shared with the Porsche Macan Electric and Audi Q6 e‑tron), the A6 Avant e-tron benefits from a low centre of gravity and a weight distribution tailored for stability at speed.

This makes it an ideal companion for long journeys, delivering the high‑speed comfort and refinement Audi has become known for, but in absolute electric silence.

In everyday driving, the A6 remains easy and intuitive to place on the road. Its rear‑wheel‑drive variants offer predictable, balanced handling, while the quattro models add reassuring traction in wet or slippery conditions without making the car feel overly heavy or unwieldy.

Steering is accurate rather than sporty, prioritising precision and calm responses over razor‑sharp feedback. It’s certainly composed and direct, which gives it an edge over many other estates.

Practicality

Our rating: 9/10

Boot space

Audi A6 Avant e-tron boot space:

  • Boot space: 502 litres

  • Incl. Rear seats folded: 1,422 litres

  • Front boot (froot): 27 litres

The A6 Avant e-tron's boot is decent at 502 litres, but it does lack behind a number of key rivals.

For example, the BMW i5 Touring has 570 litres, and the VW ID.7 has 605 litres.

Fold down the Audi’s rear seats, though, and this grows to 1,422 litres – plenty for storing longer items such as furniture of holiday luggage.

With it being electric, you’ll find an extra 27 litres of space under the bonnet where an engine would usually be. This is ideal for charge cables.

Rear seats

Thanks to its long wheelbase, rear passengers benefit from generous legroom and a flat cabin floor – a common EV advantage that frees up foot space and makes the middle seat more usable.

And despite its sloping roofline for aerodynamic reasons, the A6 Avant e-tron doesn’t compromise headroom as much as you might expect. Audi has shaped the roofline and seat placement to maintain comfort for rear occupants, and the wide door openings make entry and exit easy.

Rear passengers also get their own climate controls, depending on trim, USB‑C ports, and well‑sculpted seats that support longer journeys.

Then, the rear bench folds in a 40:20:40 split, allowing you to load long items through the middle while still keeping two rear passengers comfortable.

Storage solutions

Inside, the A6 Avant benefits from the layout carried over from the Q6 e‑tron, so you're not going to feel cramped.

There are plenty of cupholders, a deep glovebox and lots of space in the door pockets.

Audi A6 Avant e-tron dimensions

  • Height: 1,527mm

  • Width: 2,137mm

  • Length: 4,928mm

  • Kerb weight: Up to 2,316kg

Safety

Following its 2025 Euro NCAP safety test, the A6 Avant e-tron scored a full five stars. This is a testament to its onboard safety features and build quality.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, self-parking, surround-view cameras and collision avoidance tech.

On top-spec models, you get adaptive Matrix LED headlights and improvements to the basic assistance systems.

Running costs

Our rating: 8/10

Audi A6 Avant e-tron: electric range, battery and charging

Range: 325-437 miles

Battery size: 83kWh or 100kWh

Max charging speed: 225kW or 270kW

Charge port location: Rear right

Charge time (AC): 0-100% in 10hr using a 7kW charger

Charge time (DC): 10-80% in 21 minutes at 270kW

Efficiency: 3.9 to 4.2mi/kWh

Charging cost: From £5.81

Audi offers the A6 Avant e-tron with two battery sizes: 83kWh and 100kWh

The former gets 325 miles of range, and the latter can get up to 437 miles on one charge – making it one of the most compelling long-range electric cars you can buy.

Smaller battery cars can charge at up to 225kW (a fast speed in isolation), whereas the 100kWh models get access to 270kW. Though 10-80% charging times are still 21 minutes for both.

The everyday range is very promising, with an average of between 3.9mi/kWh and 4.2mi/kWh – that’s Tesla levels of efficiency.

It also benefits, like many EVs, from regenerative braking, which maximises efficiency when you lift off the throttle or use the brakes.

Reliability

Audis are, on the whole, very dependable cars. There’s a reason they’ve been making cars for over 100 years.

Being fully electric, the A6 Avant e-tron has fewer moving parts than a traditional internal combustion engine, too, which means it’s far more reliable in the long run for general wear and tear.

Every new Audi A6 Avant e-tron comes with a very standard three-year/60,000-mile warranty and a separate eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the battery.

The Audi A6 Avant e-tron is one of the most refined and capable electric estates available, and we don’t say that lightly.

It has a long range, ultra‑fast charging and a good ride. Inside, it delivers a high‑tech, premium cabin with standout features like an augmented‑reality head‑up display and excellent build quality.

While its screen‑heavy interior won’t suit everyone and some rivals offer slightly more boot space, the A6 Avant e-tron excels where it really matters: comfort, range, safety and everyday usability.

It’s a polished, future‑ready electric estate that sets a strong benchmark in its class.
