Seven-seater cars with sliding doors are a dream for big families with plenty of stuff to move around.

The sliding doors are ideal for lifting children in and out of the car safely, while offering easy access for drivers and passengers with limited mobility.

Plus, you avoid any car park dings that sometimes happen with outward opening doors.

We compare some of our top seven-seater cars with sliding doors in our guide below.

The best 7-seat cars with sliding doors

Volkswagen ID. Buzz

VW ID. Buzz exterior + Ben Welham

Seven-seater cars with sliding doors might sound like sensible, bus-like vessels – but the VW ID. Buzz proves that wrong.

Massively spacious, with push-button sliding doors, it wouldn’t look out of place in a Cars film. As a completely electric model, it’s ideal for urbanites living in clean air zones as well.

Our motoring journalist Ben Welham put the ID. Buzz to the test, saying:

“Electric sliding doors aren’t just fun for your inner-child, they’re also much easier to use when your hands are full.

“They can also be opened and closed from the driver's seat, making you feel like a taxi driver letting passengers enter and exit the vehicle.”

Citroën ë-SpaceTourer

Citroen e-SpaceTourer

Another electric choice for the best seven-seater cars with sliding doors – the Citroën ë-SpaceTourer actually offers seats for up to nine people.

Giving you up to 215 miles of range on a full charge, it’s an efficient and practical choice for the daily commute and school run.

With sliding seats as well as sliding doors, you can take advantage of extra loading room if needed. And you can have up to 2,381 litres of space if you remove the third row of seats.

Peugeot Rifter

Peugeot e-Rifter

The Peugeot Rifter is another van-style seven-seater that brings us plenty of space and sliding doors.

It’s easy to access and low to the ground, ideal if stepping up to an SUV would be a struggle, but not so low that you’ll hurt your back strapping in a child seat.

For a car of this size, it can be surprisingly frugal to run. The BlueHDi 100 diesel engine can achieve up to 50.6mpg, and there’s little variation on that figure, even if you go for a more powerful model.

Citroën Berlingo

Citroen Berlingo Multispace driving

When you think of MPVs, the Citroën Berlingo likely comes to mind. It’s a reliable pick for a seven-seat car with sliding doors – and it has the fan club to prove it.

The boot space is absolutely massive at 775 litres in the M model (the five-seater) and 1,050 litres in the XL (the seven-seater). That’s a ridiculous amount of space, but ideal if you need room for mobility equipment or pushchairs.

You’ll need to find your Berlingo on the used market, as it’s since been replaced by the electric ë-Berlingo.

That does mean there’s great deals out there though, so not all bad.

Ford Grand Tourneo Connect

Ford Grand Tourneo Connect

Like a few of the other models on this list, the Ford Tourneo Connect is another MPV with van origins and – most importantly – sliding doors.

It’s a spacious seven-seater with a choice of a petrol or diesel engine. The most efficient is the 2.0-litre diesel, which at its best, can get an impressive 67.3mpg.

The folding seats mean the loading space is really versatile, offering up to a massive 2,620 litres of cargo space.

Keep in mind that this is another discontinued model (we said goodbye in 2023) so you’ll need to shop used to enjoy those sliding doors.

Ford Grand C-Max

Ford Grand C-Max side

If you’re not into the van aesthetic, the Ford Grand C-Max is a great option. It’s a roomy MPV with rear sliding doors – though it is one of the smaller options on this list.

You’ll only have 92 litres of boot space with all seven seats in place, but the third-row seats can be folded to reveal a 1,742-litre loading space.

Despite its cleverly compact design, there’s plenty of room in the back for even taller passengers.

Plus, it’s a really comfortable and easy drive, even though it’s bigger than your average hatchback.

Mercedes V-Class

Mercedes V-Class side

Back to the van-like models, the Mercedes V-Class is a classic choice. It’s up there with the ID. Buzz with its stylish design, making it a practical number with Mercedes flare.

Built on van foundations so it’s solid, reliable and feels every bit the Merc. There’s a choice of Standard, Long and Extra Long models – with the Standard being the seven-seater.

We love how big the rear access is on this one, making it really easy to load up the 610-litre boot space.

The Standard model also has a groovy little pop-up table for the back seats as well, making it ideal for family road trips.

Benefits of sliding doors in 7-seater cars

Sliding doors can be really handy on seven-seater cars and they're definitely worth considering if you need a bigger vehicle.

While seven-seater SUVS are considered a bit more stylish, an MPV with sliding doors is more practical and often cheaper.

Sliding doors make it much easier to access the car and load it up. And they can be helpful for disabled passengers to have safer access, especially in tight carparks.

They also mean no more banging your car door in those busy carparks, perfect if you’re a large family living in a busy urban area.
