Is JAECOO a good car?

If you’re asking are JAECOO cars any good, chances are you’ve seen one around or you’re attracted by the low price point and wondering what the catch could be.

While JAECOO is still a very young brand in the UK, it has the backing of a major Chinese car manufacturer and plenty to offer.

So, should you consider a JAECOO over one of the more established brands? Read on to find out.

JAECOO is quickly shaping up to be an extremely popular brand, offering strong style and a long list of features while undercutting most other cars.

So far, we’ve seen that build quality is solid and the interiors are surprisingly plush, plus you get all the tech you’d expect of a car from the 2020s.

Don’t just take our word for it, though. The JAECOO 7 was the sixth best-selling car in August 2025 among all of the cars available, making it more popular than most go-to family crossovers like the Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai Tucson.

Is JAECOO a good brand?

JAECOO is a sub-brand of Chery, one of China’s biggest carmakers. It’s aimed squarely at tackling Britain’s more premium market with the low pricing you’d expect of a challenger brand.

In fact, the JAECOO 7 is often pitched as a rival to the Range Rover Evoque, which is an aspirational crossover with huge brand appeal. Like-for-like, there’s no comparison – the JAECOO 7 is far cheaper, though it does lack the badge appeal.

Are JAECOO electric cars good?

JAECOO only makes one electric car, and it’s very new to the market so data is extremely limited. Still, we know that electric cars from OMODA, its sister brand, are shaping up to be durable and long-lasting.

Although there’s only one EV option, JAECOO does use high-voltage battery tech in other areas – plug-in hybrids with the potential for very cheap running costs. Look out for SHS (Super Hybrid System) models if this sounds good.

JAECOO vs. rivals

If you’re wondering are JAECOO cars any good, you’re probably comparing one with a different car. There are two main rivals JAECOO is likely to be tackling – Tesla and Land Rover.

JAECOO vs. Tesla

JAECOO vs. Tesla

Tesla has long led the way with EV and battery tech, but JAECOO isn’t far behind with its long-lasting LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery tech (which features on the cheapest Tesla Model Y, which has a 311-mile range).

JAECOO cars have a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty compared to Tesla’s four years/60,000 miles. Both offer eight years of battery warranty with a cap of 100,000 miles, but the bigger battery in all but the entry-level Model Y has a higher 120,000-mile cap.

JAECOO vs. Range Rover

There’s no arguing that Land Rover has huge brand appeal, and the Range Rover Evoque is the stylish icon many drivers aspire to own. But if it’s just a high-quality, feature-rich interior you’re after, the JAECOO 7 delivers.

Top-spec models get heating for the front seats and steering wheel, cooled front seats, a large 14.8-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, a SONY sound system, surround-view cameras, keyless entry, a powered boot lid, and a lot more.

What makes an electric car good?

JAECOO 7 charge port

When considering any form of electrified car, be it a fully electric car or a plug-in hybrid, there are a few things you’ll want to consider:

  • Range – how many miles you can drive on electric power

  • Battery size – a bigger battery should last longer between charges, but remember it’ll cost more to fill up in one go

  • Efficiency – if one car can go 300 miles and the other just 250, but both have the same size battery, then there’s a clear winner

  • Charging – most homes are limited to 7kW, but when you need a fast top-up on the go, check the rapid charging (DC) max speeds (also measured in kW)

  • Power – it’s all well and good being efficient, but you’ll want enough power to satisfy your driving

  • Tech – from infotainment displays to mobile apps, how connected do you want your car to be?

  • Value – cars with more equipment are appealing, especially if you don’t have to pay a huge premium for the extras
