Are Range Rovers reliable?

A Range Rover is the obvious option for a luxury SUV – but are they reliable?

If you’re on the market for a luxury SUV, it’s likely that a Land Rover Range Rover will be your first choice.

Blending off-roading ability with sleek and iconic styling, a Range Rover is a brilliant option for something practical and premium.

Choosing a luxury car like a Range Rover means you’ll be paying more than you would for the average model, so you’ll want to make sure it’s a reliable and well-built choice.

What makes a vehicle reliable?

A reliable car is one that you can trust to be economical, well-built, and is unlikely to need lots of extra work.

All vehicles, including luxury models like a Range Rover, need regular upkeep and maintenance over time, but if your car is experiencing lots of faults and needs extra maintenance outside of normal wear and tear, you might have an unreliable model on your hands.

You should also look out for Euro NCAP safety figures, as these help to indicate how secure you’ll be inside your vehicle.

A full five-star NCAP rating is ideal, but four stars are still impressive.

Impressive miles-per-gallon figures mean great fuel economy, and this will help save money on running costs.

If you’re using your car daily, many motorists want to rely on their vehicle to be conservative when it comes to using up what’s in the tank.

Range Rovers come with a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty when purchased brand-new, so any faults during this time that fall within your warranty guidelines will be dealt with by Land Rover.

How reliable are Range Rover models?

Range Rover reliability

The Range Rover has fought some battles when it comes to reliability, and there are mixed verdicts on how it performs.

While some reviews are positive, the latest Range Rover is working hard to shift a below-average reliability rating from previous models

In 2022, the Range Rover received a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with 84% for adults and 97% for child occupants.

Safety features throughout the car include the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, and 3D surround cameras.

There are also plug-in hybrid Range Rover models on offer, capable of up to 75 miles using just electric power and producing just 16g/km of exhaust emissions in EV mode.

Range Rover Evoque reliability

The Range Rover Evoque is a smaller SUV option from Land Rover that offers a stylish, premium feel with a high-tech interior.

This is another Range Rover option that receives mixed views for reliability, but scores around average as a whole.

The Evoque also received a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with an impressive 94% score for adult occupants and 87% for children.

The overall build of the Evoque is solid and hard-wearing, with a feel that this is a model made to last.

There’s even now a plug-in hybrid Evoque on the market, with a combined WLTP fuel economy of up to 141mpg.

Range Rover Velar reliability

The Range Rover Velar is ideal if you think you’ll spend most of your time on the roads rather than heading off track and getting muddy.

This is the one to pick if you enjoy Range Rover styling but don’t need quite as much practicality.

The Velar scores about average for reliability, with an impressive five-star Euro NCAP safety rating that includes 93% for adults and 85% for children.

When it comes to efficiency, the plug-in hybrid models are your best bet and offer up to 130mpg combined.

The D200 mild-hybrid diesel engine is efficient for the size and weight of the car without the need to plug in and charge up, offering around 44.8mpg.

Range Rover Sport reliability

Another chunky but stylish SUV, the Range Rover Sport is in its third generation and has seen many a new upgrade.

When it comes to reliability, it’s hard to get an accurate picture of how the latest models perform as they’re still new on the market.

Older models have a fairly average reputation for reliability, and sharing much of its build with the classic Range Rover means you’re getting something tried and tested.

On its 2022 test, the Range Rover scored a full five-star Euro NCAP rating, with 85% scores for both adult and child occupant safety.

You can expect up to 37mpg from the D300 or D350 models according to WLTP claims, so not too shabby on the running costs for such a large car.
