BMW i5 Touring

a blue bmw i5 touring driving on a snow-covered roadThe BMW i5 Touring is the brand’s first-ever fully electric estate car, based on the i5 executive saloon but with a larger boot and different packaging.

It gets a 344-mile range from its 81.2kWh battery, and impressive performance, with the standard car getting 340hp and the top-spec i5 M60 xDrive Touring achieving a massive 601hp.

The boot space is also a key draw with this car, offering 570 litres – 80 litres more than its saloon counterpart.

BMW 3 Series Touring Plug-in Hybrid

BMW 3 Series Touring frontIn addition to its petrol and diesel estate cars, BMW also makes plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and the BMW 3 Series Touring (in 330e spec)is the 3 Series’ answer to just that.

It’s identical to the standard car in almost every way, except it has a clever hybrid system that allows for up to 60 miles of electric-only driving.

And of course, being a Touring, it has a much larger boot – 410 litres over the saloon’s 375 litres.

It’s also no slouch, with 299hp and a 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds.

In true 5 Series style, it too gets a large boot with 570 litres, compared to the saloon’s 490-litre space, equalling the i5 range.

BMW M3 Touring

BMW M3 Touring drivingEstate cars are great, but sometimes you want a second, sportier car for some weekend fun. Luckily, the M3 Touring offers the best of both worlds.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine producing 530hp, the M3 Touring is far from your average estate car, and instead even rivals proper sports cars.

Name another car you can launch to 62mph in 3.6 seconds with a 500-litre boot.

Black BMW M5 TouringWhoops, spoke too soon...

This is where the big daddy steps in. The big cheese, if you will.

The BMW M5 Touring sits at the top of the BMW estate car food chain, flexing its 4.4-litre V8 engine, 3.6-second to 62mph time and muscular arches.

727hp is not to be sniffed at, and believe it or not, is almost the same as BMW’s last Formula One car from the 2009 season... just let that sink in.

And unlike the BMW Sauber F1.09, the M5 Touring has a massive 500-litre boot to seal the deal.
