Regular trips up and down the motorway can zap a lot of time, money and comfort.

That’s why you need to be confident that you have the right kind of car for these particular trips, that's comfortable and can do the distance. That's why we've listed some of our favourites.

Mercedes S-Class

Škoda Superb

You won't be burning through fuel on your journey either, especially with a plug-in hybrid engine. These get a claimed figure of up to 257mpg, but that's just for electric driving, so expect to see 50mpg in the real world.

Nissan Qashqai

That’s why the excellent fuel efficiency of the Nissan Qashqai is a huge benefit.

In the 1.3-litre petrol engine, mild-hybrid assistance means you'll get up to 44.5mpg. There's also the E-Power hybrid that can achieve up to 53.3mpg, with 119g/km of emissions.

The spacious interior leaves plenty of room for both passengers and luggage.

Fuel economy is impressive, too. Ford claims you can get up to 282.5mpg in the plug-in hybrid model, according to WLTP testing.
