Exterior features
With its sporty looks and compact frame, the BMW 1 Series is a head turner. Even past first glance, there’s plenty to hold your attention.
BMW 1 Series Sport models from 2020 get a body colour front bumper and an exclusive body colour rear bumper with a more aggressive finish than standard.
There are 17-inch alloy wheels that look chunky on this smaller car, with the SE model offering slightly smaller 16-inch star-spoke alloys.
LED headlights are paired with rain sensors, LED fog lights, and the BMW Park Distance Control (PDC) sensors.
Do all BMW 1 Series have parking sensors?
Even if you’re going for the entry-level (but still high-spec) 1 Series SE, rear parking sensors are usually included as standard in models after 2020.
Older models didn’t always include parking sensors from standard, so you’ll need to search for used 1 Series that had this added as an extra.
Models after 2020 also include the optional Park Assist system that combines a parking and reversing assistant with other parking aids and cameras.
BMW 1 Series infotainment / interior tech
To make your drives more comfortable and enjoyable, 1 Series include some great interior tech.
This can include things like:
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
BMW Live Cockpit with HD colour displays that shows information like maps and driving stats
Heads-up display that projects driving information on the windscreen
Does the BMW 1 series have Apple CarPlay?
All BMW 1 Series from 2017 onwards get Apple CarPlay as standard.
This lets you mirror your iPhone on the infotainment screen for easy access to maps, playlists and messages. Don’t worry, messages are read out to you and you reply with dictation.
You also get Android Auto, the Android phone equivalent of CarPlay.
Does BMW 1 series have Bluetooth?
BMW 1 Series models have been available with Bluetooth as standard for many years. Models from 2013 and before might not have it, so make sure to check if that’s what you’re looking at.
BMW 1 Series security features
Security features come by the bucket load – there are sensing door locks, seatbelt warnings, anti-theft engine immobiliser, plus your standard stuff like airbags.
There’s a hefty amount of safety tech as well. This includes auto emergency braking as standard, lane-departure warnings, and the option to add lane-keep assist, rear collision and cross-traffic warnings.
The 1 Series was also awarded a five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2019, so you know it’s going to be a safe car.
