Cheapest Audi to insure in 2024
Choosing a luxury Audi can mean you’ll pay more for insurance than with other manufacturers, but this depends on the insurance group. Find the cheapest Audi models to insure in our handy guide
Car insurance costs are decided based on the insurance group your car sits in and your individual circumstances.
Insurance groups in the UK go from one to 50, and the highest groups will be the most expensive to insure.
You can expect a car to be in a higher insurance group if the repair or replacement costs are higher, but things like how much safety tech is installed and the car’s performance are also considered.
As used Audi models are a premium choice and are more expensive to purchase than other manufacturers, you can expect insurance costs to be higher.
Costs can also be higher if you have points on your licence or live in an area with high crime rates.
That doesn’t mean that Audi insurance costs will be wildly expensive, however, as some models that keep costs low.
You’ll also need to consider how your individual factors affect insurance costs, so getting a quote from your provider is the best way to get an accurate idea.
Take a look at the cheapest Audi models to insure if you want to cut down on running costs in a luxury car, and which models are slightly more expensive.
Audi A1
The Audi A1 is a great entry model into the Audi owner’s club – it's a smaller option that’s ideal for casual daily driving with a luxury feel.
At the lower end of the scale, and making it the affordable good first car to insure, is the Audi A1 SE 1.2 TFSI SE 5d model, which sits in insurance group nine. There are plenty of other Audi A1 models and trims to choose from.
The Audi A1 Technik models from 2018 and onwards are also on the lower end of the insurance scale. The lowest is the Technik 25 TFSI 95PS 5d model in group 16.
At the top end of the scale is the A1 Vorsprung 35 TFSI 150PS S Tronic auto 5d model, which sits in group 27. This still isn’t the most expensive Audi to insure, so it’s a good midrange choice for keeping costs reasonable.

Audi R8
The Audi R8 is a coveted model in the Audi range that offers a true supercar experience. It’s gorgeous to look at, but the V10 engine hiding underneath is what most fans come for.
The R8 Coupé is a supercar, so it’s going to be more expensive to insure. Models from 2015 onwards all sit in insurance group 50, including the standard trim options.
You can narrowly cut down to group 49 by choosing a 2007–2014 model like the 4.2 FSI Quattro 2d model.
But let's be honest, if you’re considering one of the world’s favourite supercars then you’re likely not too worried about the insurance cost.

Audi A1 Citycarver
The Audi A1 Citycarver has all the best bits of the standard A1 but gets touches like raised suspension and bigger wheels. You can think of it as a classic hatchback with a dose of SUV styling.
The A1 Citycarver sits in low insurance bands, with the 30 TFSI 116PS 5d model sitting in group 19. Most of the other models in the range also sit in group 19, so insurance will be around the same for these options.
The 35 TFSI 150PS 5d model moves into group 24, with a few other models with the same engine setup also sitting in the same band.
Audi A4 Avant
The Audi A4 Avant is another estate option with a luxury feel, packing a 495-litre boot that’s ideal for those who like some extra space.

A great mid-range choice for insurance costs is the 35 TDI Sport Edition 5dr S Tronic in group 25 – a feisty model that still doesn’t cost the earth to run.
There is a range of different trims and engine options with each Audi option, so it’s a good idea to research the insurance group of each one before going ahead as well as any individual factors that will make a difference. Getting a quote from your insurer will also give you a more accurate idea of your costs.
