How much is a Ford Mustang?

The Ford Mustang is an iconic performance vehicle with plenty of aesthetic charm – but how much does a Mustang cost?

Ford Mustang 2023_side

If there’s one thing you can be sure of about the Ford Mustang, it will absolutely turn heads. Before you even hear the chunky V8 engine, the sporty good looks and almost retro styling are a real treat.

That engine makes it a lot of fun to drive as well, capable of supplying a real punch of power that’s complemented by agile handling.

It’s an ideal option if you’re lucky enough to be on the market for a sports car – but how much does a Ford Mustang cost?

How much does a Ford Mustang cost? UK prices

The cost of a Ford Mustang will depend on the exact model you choose and whether you’re buying a brand-new or used model.

Choosing a used Mustang will mean you’ll save money and could find a higher-spec model at a lower price than brand-new, but buying a new model means you get to build the car to your preferences.

If you choose a brand-new Ford Mustang GT from the Ford website, you’ll be looking at a recommended on-the-road price from £50,315.

This model includes 19-inch alloy wheels, fully independent front and rear suspension, and plenty of interior tech.

On our website, a used Ford Mustang GT will cost around £30,750 for a 2017 model. These prices will differ based on the exact models we have in stock.

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 is another superb choice, costing upwards of £60,315 when bought brand-new.

This model gets magnetic finish 19-inch alloys, MagneRide Adaptive Suspension with unique Mach 1 calibration, and cruise control.

It’s also worth mentioning the Ford Mustang Mach-E, a fully electric car that can hit 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds, with up to 372 miles of range.

Brand-new, you can expect to pay upwards of £50,830 for an entry-level Select trim or from £74,540 for the GT model.

A used 2021 Mustang Mach-E on our site will usually start at prices around £35,000, depending on our stock.

Ford Mustang finance

You can also choose to spread the cost of your car with a finance deal, such as Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) or Hire Purchase (HP).

This will allow you to make an initial payment on your vehicle and follow this with monthly payments until the end of your contract.

Is the Ford Mustang a good car?

If you’ve been considering a luxury sports car but want something with a unique edge, the styling of the Ford Mustang might be for you.

It offers a bit more to look at than alternatives like the Mercedes GLC and BMW 6 Series, with styling that feels slightly retro in places and reminiscent of classic sports cars we know and love.

There’s more to the Mustang than just its looks, though. You can get both the Coupé and Convertible models with a 5.0-litre V8 engine that offers 450hp. You’ll also be able to hit 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds.

There’s a 2.3-litre EcoBoost model that can be found on the used market, creating a Mustang option that easily rivals cars like the Audi TT.

If you’re looking for something a bit more efficient and practical, the Mustang Mach-E is an ideal choice for an all-electric SUV.

With up to 372 miles of range and the ability to charge from 10-80% in just 90 minutes using a 50kW DC charger, it’s an ideal option for that Mustang finesse that saves on running costs.

Mustang maintenance costs

The Ford Mustang has long held a reputation for being a reliable model, benefitting from the tried-and-tested nature that comes with a model that was first launched in 1965.

Reliability reviews and results on driver satisfaction surveys are positive, so you shouldn’t have to worry about getting repairs to your Mustang that sit outside of normal wear and tear.

Annual MOTs and servicing can also keep maintenance costs low. MOTs are a legal requirement in the UK, and you’ll have to send your Mustang for a test each year.

Costs for this in the UK are capped at just under £55, but this doesn’t include the parts or costs of labour for any repairs.

Servicing is also a good idea, despite it not being a legal requirement. This will include things like oil and filter changes and checks on your fluid levels.

The cost of servicing a Ford Mustang will depend on the location of your garage, and the type of service you choose.

How much is insurance for a Ford Mustang?

The cost of your Ford Mustang car insurance will be affected by your personal factors and the insurance group that the specific model sits in.

Factors like your job title, where you store your vehicle and whether you have points on your licence can contribute to the cost of your insurance.

If you’re someone with previous driving offences, you’ll usually find that insurance costs are higher.

Most Ford Mustang models sit in insurance groups 39 to 45, meaning they’re slightly more expensive to insure.

Insurance groups range from one to 50, with the higher groups being pricier. This is due to the amount it would cost to repair or replace the vehicle in the event of an insurance claim, and how powerful the vehicle is.

If you want a cheaper car to insure, aren’t too fussed about performance and are just searching for something that looks the part, there are other models you can consider.

The Mazda MX-5 is a sporty vehicle that will be cheaper to insure than a Mustang, as is the BMW Z4.
