The best car manufacturer warranties UK
Toyota
Top of the charts when it comes to offering the longest car warranty is Toyota.
Like most car manufacturers, Toyota initially offers a three-year warranty, or up to 60,000 miles.
But here’s where the magic happens: every time you get your car serviced by an authorised Toyota dealer, that warranty gets extended for another year (or 10,000 miles), taking you up to a total of 10 years (or 100,000 miles).
If you sell your car, the warranty keeps running for subsequent owners up to the 10-year limit, so if you’re buying a used Toyota, check the paperwork is all up to date.
Toyota’s most popular makes include the Yaris, Corolla, RAV4, C-HR and Aygo. You can buy yours with a 14-day money back guarantee and a 90-day warranty at cinch.
Lexus
Lexus is part of the same company as Toyota, so it comes as little surprise to learn that this luxurious car shares the same 10-year/100,000-mile warranty benefits.
As per Toyota’s warranty, you’ll need to ensure you get your Lexus serviced on schedule at an authorised dealership to qualify for the extension.
Globally, the most popular Lexus models include the RX and ES. Here in the UK, the NX has been the best-selling Lexus model since 2015.
Known for their premium luxury feel, reliability, safety and excellent customer service, Lexus is up there with the best.
Peugeot electric cars
When you buy a non-electric Peugeot, you’ll get the standard three-year/60,000-mile warranty.
However, if you buy electric, that warranty can be extended to eight years/100,000 miles.
Called Allure Cure, Peugeot's extended warranty is dependent on you taking the car for scheduled services at a Peugeot dealership.
When you do, the warranty will be extended for a further two years, or 16,000 miles, up to the eight-year/100,000-mile limit.
Some of Peugeot’s most popular electric models include the e-2008, e-208 and Peugeot’s electric van-based nine-seater, the e-Traveller.
Citroën
Known for its unique styling, innovative engineering and iconic car designs, (everyone knows the 2CV) Citroën offers a standard warranty for three years or up to 60,000 miles.
However, the French manufacturer has recently extended its warranty to eight years under its ‘Citroën We Care’ package.
The enhanced warranty covers engine-related components (including the gearbox, transmission and powertrain) for all new passenger cars purchased from 10 January 2025 and is activated when you have your car serviced at a Citroën dealership.
Citroën’s most popular brands include the C3 city car, C5 Aircross SUV and the C4 crossover-style hatchback.
Suzuki
Japanese manufacturer Suzuki is well known for making reliable SUVs, compact hatchbacks and high-performance motorbikes.
Buy a Suzuki brand new and it will automatically come with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty.
But every time you get your car serviced at an authorised Suzuki dealership, you’ll get an additional 9,000 – 12,500 miles added to the warranty, depending on the service interval of your car.
As long as you service your car on time, that warranty extends up to seven years or 100,000 miles.
Known for their reliable and affordable cars, Suzuki’s most popular models include the Vitara, Swift, Ignis and S-Cross.
Kia
Renowned for making affordable cars with stylish designs, Korean manufacturer Kia produces a range of hatchbacks, saloons, SUVs and more.
Known for quality and reliability, Kia also offers long warranties across its range.
Buy brand new, and you’ll get a comprehensive seven years, with the first three coming with unlimited mileage and the latter four lasting up to 100,000 miles.
As long as a Kia is within the warranty period and has been serviced to Kia’s standards, the warranty is passed on to the next vehicle owner.
Popular Kia makes include the Picanto hatchback, Sportage compact SUV and seven-seater Sorento, with many more available to suit all drivers.
MG
Known for its long history and classic design, MG enjoys an excellent reputation for producing sporty, exciting and value-for money cars.
Initially a British brand, MG is now owned by Chinese manufacturer SAIC Motor, and most of the manufacturing and design today takes place in Shanghai.
From 2019, MG started issuing seven-year warranties with 80,000 miles across its ranges.
The extended warranty will see you covered for the big stuff, like engine, fuel and coolant systems, suspension, body components and paintwork.
Wear-and-tear items like tyres, brake pads and clutch components are covered for the first 12 months (or 15,000 miles).
Popular MG models include the MG HS large SUV, the MG ZS compact SUV and the MG ZS EVMG ZS Ev electric SUV.
Dacia
Known for competitive pricing and reliability, Dacia produces cost-effective cars that are ideal for budget-conscious buyers.
Offering ample space, comfortable interiors and good fuel economy, Dacias may not be the most luxurious cars, but they do offer a good range of features with safety systems, good infotainment and various trim levels.
The three-year/60,000-mile warranty comes as standard on all of Dacia’s new cars. But this can be extended by one year (or 18,000 miles) every time you service your vehicle at a Dacia dealer, taking you up to six years or 75,000 miles.
Popular Dacia models include the Sandero family hatchback, Sandero Stepway crossover and the Duster SUV.
Hyundai
Known for making reliable cars at competitive prices, South Korean manufacturer Hyundai offers a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty on its passenger cars.
For light commercial vehicles, the warranty is also five years, but it’s capped at 100,000 miles.
Hyundai also offers a high-voltage battery warranty, covering the battery for eight years (or 100,000 miles), while the 48V batteries found in mild-hybrid cars are covered for five years.
Hyundai’s most popular models include the Tucson midsize SUV, the i10 city car, the i30 family hatchback and the IONIQ 5.
Why do car manufacturers offer warranties?
Car manufacturers provide warranties to build trust among their customers. It’s reassuring to know that if anything goes wrong with your car after you’ve bought it, the manufacturer will take care of it.
Because warranties provide a level of protection against unexpected repair costs, customers can feel reassured that they won’t get any expensive repair bills after buying their car.
This can also help to drive repeat business for the manufacturers, and it shows they believe in the quality and durability of their products.
What makes a good warranty?
A good car warranty should cover all the car’s major components, including the engine, transmission, fuel, and brake systems.
It should also cover any unexpected failures that arise because of a fault on the manufacturer’s side.
All warranties should come with clear terms and conditions outlining exactly what’s covered – and what isn’t. The manufacturer should also outline how to extend the warranty for free. For example, by committing to regularly servicing your vehicle at a recommended dealership.
A good warranty should last a number of years. The standard warranty protection for new cars is three years or up to 60,000 miles. But ideally, a warranty should last for the same length of time you plan to own the car for.
Does the car warranty transfer to the new owner?
Typically, yes. As long as the car is still within the warranty time frame and mileage limits, and has been serviced by an authorised dealer, car warranties are usually transferable to new owners.
However, it’s important to check the terms and conditions of the car’s warranty, as some manufacturers may stipulate that theirs isn’t transferrable. In some cases, you may need to notify the warranty provider of the transfer.
