Nissan is a firm believer in producing cars with “innovation that excites”, and the manufacturer lives up to its slogan.

A used Nissan Qashqai makes for a great choice of car.

In fact, the Qashqai is regarded as one of the first cars to popularise the crossover SUV.

First introduced in 2007, it quickly became a favourite for people who wanted the benefits of an SUV (such as ground clearance and all-wheel drive) but in a more compact package.

And for those who like to buy British, the good news is that Qashqais are built in the UK at Nissan’s Sunderland factory.

It’s a family SUV that resonates with drivers who prioritise style, space and safety.

The exterior looks just as good as the interior. While it’s perhaps not as edgy as the Kia Sportage, you can still appreciate large alloy wheels, splashes of chrome, and quality plastics.

If looks are more your thing and you want an SUV with the profile of a coupé, check out the Qashqai’s smaller sibling, the Juke.

But what are your options when it comes to choosing a Nissan Qashqai?

What are the different Nissan Qashqai models?

There are currently three generations of the Nissan Qashqai:

First generation: 2007-2014

Second generation: 2014-2021

Third generation: 2021-present

Each generation shares similarities and differences. For example, all three are compact SUVs and are available with a wide range of engines.

The Nissan Qashqai Visia is the entry-level model. Equipped with a DAB radio, parking sensors, and manual air conditioning, this model offers what first-time drivers need.

If you want all the trimmings, choosing some of the other trims including Acenta Premium can provide those extra features.

Across all Nissan Qashqai models, you'll get a spacious cabin as standard, with decent build quality to demonstrate Nissan’s reputation for solid reliability.

In terms of differences, the first-generation model was available as a seven-seater.

From 2014 onwards, however, Qashqai models are five-seaters only.

As you'd expect, the third-generation model features the best car tech.

This advanced technology includes Intelligent Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Speed Assist, and a 360-degree camera system.

What is the difference between Nissan Qashqai Acenta and Tekna?

When it comes to trim levels, there are six different options available.

  • Visia

  • Acenta

  • Acenta Premium

  • N-Connecta

  • Tekna

  • Tekna +

The differences between the trim levels are in the interior and exterior features, as well as safety features.

The Qashqai has been awarded a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP, so you can cruise with confidence.

If we look at the difference between the Acenta and Tekna versions, here’s what you can expect:

Interior

Acenta: Cloth seats, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, touchscreen infotainment system (eight-inch)

Tekna: Part-leather seats, wireless charging pad, heated front seats, digital driver display (12.3-inch), Bose sound system, heated steering wheel

Exterior

Acenta: 17-inch alloy wheels, heated door mirrors, rear privacy glass

Tekna: 19-inch alloy wheels, power-operated tailgate, glass roof

Safety

Acenta: Lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning

Tekna: Rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring

Which is the best Nissan Qashqai model for me?

The generation and trim level you opt for will depend totally on your preferences. For those looking for an entry-level Nissan Qashqai, the Visia is the answer.

If you want to invest in a car with the latest features and safety technology, the Tekna trim level is for you.

Less fussed about all the bells and whistles? The Acenta will serve you well.

The versatility of the Nissan Qashqai means there’s a version for every driver – making it a gem of a car.

According to the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) the Nissan Qashqai was the UK’s top-selling new car in 2022.

And, if you wanted to know how reliable it is, the latest Qashqai has been named the Which? Most Reliable Car for 2023 and given a five-star rating.

Which? said, “Looking at similar-aged cars in our survey, not one was reliable enough to get five stars out of five in this category, let alone come anywhere near those at the top.

"Our data shows that 2023 is set to be the year of the Qashqai.”

And with a number of engine options too, this car offers the most variety for drivers.

You can choose between petrol, diesel or e-POWER (hybrid), as well as front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive options.
