If you’re deciding between a used Kia Sportage vs. used Peugeot 3008, then you’ve done well so far, because both of these SUVs are incredibly appealing and have a lot going for them.

However, they are totally different cars, each with its own selling points, which emphasises the importance of making an educated decision.

Below, we outline all of the key differences you need to know about in order to pick between the Sportage and the 3008.

Is the Peugeot 3008 or Kia Sportage more stylish?

In a sea of crossovers and family SUVs, it’s important for car manufacturers to give their models an edge to help them stand out. The Peugeot 3008 and Kia Sportage are two such examples that use eye-catching design and look great.

The Kia Sportage’s front end is dominated by a large, imposing grille flanked by bold headlight clusters and sharp LED daytime running lights.

It has sharp lines and a high beltline that makes it look bigger than it is, but overall, it has a slightly sportier look to it than the Peugeot.

The 3008 uses the already very familiar design language seen on other Peugeot models, giving it lots of brand identity.

Sticking with the big cat theme, it has so-called claw-effect design touches on the front end, like the daytime running light strip that looks like it’s been carved into the area beside the grille.

Though they’re similar in size, the 3008 looks more compact due to some clever styling.

Peugeot announced a new 3008 in 2023, which arrives on Britain’s roads in 2024. The front end is a deep evolution – it’s recognisable, but also different enough to make an impact.

It’s the rear end that sees the biggest change, though. This generation 3008 is now a coupé-SUV, featuring a sloping roofline.

Kia Sportage vs. Peugeot 3008 performance and drive

The Kia Sportage has a comfortable ride thanks to a soft suspension setup, making it a pleasant car to commute or drive around town in.

Its steering is well-weighted, but it’s not as sharp as the Peugeot’s, which is set up to offer a more engaging experience.

All Peugeot cars mount their steering wheels quite low, so you look over them and not through them. It can take some getting used to, but it can actually be quite enjoyable.

Neither is sold with diesel power, though you should be able to find some used diesels. Instead, the Kia comes with a choice of 1.6-litre petrol engines – mild hybrid, regular hybrid, or plug-in hybrid. There are regular petrols too.

Peugeot offers a plug-in hybrid variant that’s excellent, but we think the Kia’s system is slightly smoother and nicer to use.

On the flip side, Peugeot’s smaller 1.2-litre petrol engine is a joy to use, and is the pick of the bunch. It’s reasonably quick, but it’s also efficient.

Peugeot 3008 vs. Kia Sportage specs and interior

The Kia Sportage has a modern and well-designed interior, with supportive seats and plenty of physical controls that make sense and are easy to use on the go.

The front revolves around a pair of large screens – one touchscreen infotainment system and another for the digital instrument cluster.

The Peugeot has a more futuristic feel, with a wraparound cockpit-like feel and aeroplane-style toggle buttons. Higher-spec models also have a 3D-effect digital driver’s display.

In terms of quality and equipment, the Kia feels slightly more upmarket, especially in higher trim levels where it comes with car tech you’d expect in even bigger models, like cooled seats.

Mid-spec models are the pick of the bunch for both the Peugeot and the Kia. This is where you get conveniences like keyless entry and parking cameras without having to pay a higher premium.

Kia Sportage vs. Peugeot 3008 boot space

Both cars have good-size boots, but they’re pretty average for this size SUV. The Kia Sportage has a 562-litre space, which extends to 1,751 litres with the rear seats folded.

The 3008’s boot is 520 litres, or up to 1,482 litres. However, the hybrid model takes a serious hit, offering just 395 litres of space. The hybrid versions of the Sportage only have slightly smaller boot spaces – not enough to notice.

Compare Peugeot 3008 and Kia Sportage: which is more reliable?

Kis is a brand that’s quickly becoming synonymous with reliability and dependability, and the Sportage, like all other Kias, is backed by a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. The Peugeot only gets three years’ cover, which is industry-standard.

That’s not to say that Peugeot isn’t reliable – in fact, it shares many parts with Citroen and Vauxhall models, so they’re all tried and tested.

Both score average and above average ratings in customer satisfaction reports, so there’s no need to worry about any substandard quality.

Kia Sportage vs. Peugeot 3008 size and dimensions

The Kia Sportage is larger in all dimensions – it’s 4,515mm long, 1,865mm wide (plus mirrors) and 1,650mm tall.

The Peugeot 3008 is 4,447mm long, 1,841mm wide (plus mirrors) and 1,624mm tall. You don’t need to park them side-by-side to see that the Peugeot is smaller, but it doesn’t suffer much inside.

Seating three abreast on the back seats can be somewhat less comfortable, but both are excellent family SUVs.

Used Kia Sportage vs. used Peugeot 3008: which should you buy?

While they might belong to the same category of SUV, the size difference can be noticeable enough, especially if you have a growing family and need to carry a lot of people or kit.

If you need the space, it’s definitely worth focusing on the Kia Sportage, but the Peugeot 2008 is a good pick for something more nimble and efficient.
