Electric cars are getting more and more popular, and Polestar models are becoming more common as well.
It’s a fairly new brand, going from Volvo’s tuning partner to a standalone brand in 2017, and it’s just gaining real traction with UK motorists. The reason? Its electric cars are seriously impressive and luxurious.
Keep reading to learn all about the Polestar models in this guide, so you can learn more about what’s making them popular.

Polestar 1
The Polestar 1 is hard to come by. It was a limited production hybrid car that paired a petrol engine with three electric motors.
In fact, only 1,500 Polestar 1 cars were ever made, and we hear there’s only four in the UK right now.
Stand out features include:
Trim levels: Launch Edition and First Edition
Engines: 1.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged petrol engine with an electric motor on each rear wheel, plus one with the engine
Power: 609hp (that’s 326hp from the petrol engine and 283hp from the electric motors)
Polestar 2
The Polestar 2 is an undeniably cool ‘liftback’ (what the Swedish brand calls a saloon-shaped car with a hatchback-style boot, apparently) that offers electric power and a sleek design. And that body style means you get plenty of space in the cabin and a nice big boot opening.
The best bits include:
Mile range: up to 295 miles (standard range, single motor)
Power: 268hp and 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds
Interior highlights: advanced air filtration system that detects pollen and pollutants, heated seats and steering wheel, 11.2-inch HD infotainment screen
Polestar 2 Long Range
You can also get the Polestar 2 with even more performance under its stylish Scandi shell. There are Long Range models with extra power, four-wheel drive and more miles-per-charge.
Here are the stats:
Long Range Single Motor model
Motor: 220 kW rear-wheel drive
Range: 409 miles
0-60mph: 6.2 seconds
Long Range Dual Motor
Motor: 310 kW all-wheel drive
Range: 720 miles
0-60mph: 4.3 seconds
Long Range Dual Motor with Performance Pack
Motor: 350 kW all-wheel drive
Range: 352 miles
0-60mph: 4 seconds
Polestar 3 Long Range
The Polestar 3 is an electric SUV with modern minimalist styling. It seats five in extra comfort since it’s based on the seven-seater Volvo XC90, and it has a 484-litre boot.
The best bits include:
Models: Long Range Single Motor, Long Range Dual Motor and Long Range Dual Motor with Performance pack
Range: 438 miles from the Long Range Single Motor, the other models stick below 400 miles
Features: Bowers & Wolkins audio system upgrade, acoustic laminated glass panoramic roof, 14.2-inch centre display
Polestar 4 Long Range
The Polestar 4 is a very fancy coupe-SUV that will earn plenty of looks on the commute. It’s seriously aerodynamic but has the space of an SUV, and the electric powertrain means it’s quick, quiet and comfortable.
The highlights include:
Power: 264hp from the Long Range Single Motor, 528hp from the Long Range Dual Motor
Range: 385 miles and 367 miles
Tech: 15.4-inch frameless centre display, 10.2-inch driver display, 14.7-inch head-up display and Harman Kardon premium sound system upgrade
Polestar 5
The Polestar 5 has been queued for launch in 2025, to much anticipation. Polestar says it has ‘the power and performance of a supercar in a GT format’.
It’s set to be a punchy four-door grand tourer with unique headlights, plenty of sharp angles and massive alloys.
So far, we hear the best bits include:
Power: 866hp from the dual-motor electric powertrain with four-wheel drive
Mile range: up to 310 miles
Features: no rear window – just cameras, a lightweight aluminum chassis, extra legroom in the rear from the ‘foot garage’ gap in the battery pack
What’s the best Polestar model?
The best Polestar model is the one that suits you best, of course.
There will be a few things to consider – like what body type you prefer, if you need a Long Range model, and whether you’re going to hold out for the Polestar 5 to appear.
We’d recommend the Polestar 2 to someone after a good entry point to the brand, wanting smaller but still premium.
The Polestar 3 is a suave SUV choice, but the coupe-styling of the still-spacious Polestar 5 might win you over.
Obviously the Polestar 5 is looking to be a very fun choice, if you can hold out for the launch. Or, track down a Polestar 1 and let us borrow it..?
