Line the Taigo and T-Cross up and you’ll struggle to know which is which. On first glance, they’re both matching sporty SUVs with aggressive lines.
Pay closer attention and you’ll see they each have a light strip between the rear lights, but the lighting details are slightly different overall.
They’re both attractive, there’s no doubt about that, but the Taigo has a ‘swoopier’ shape whereas the T-Cross looks boxier.
The T-Cross is also slightly bigger in general, but neither of them are too big to join you on family life in an urban area.

Both the T-Cross and Taigo come with two petrol engines to choose from – a 1.0-litre or 1.5-litre.
The T-Cross previously had a 1.6-litre diesel it’s been discontinued now, but you can find one on the used market.
There are different power outputs for both engines in the different cars and for the Taigo we like the 1.0-litre with 110hp. It’s ideal for daily driving and can get just under 50mpg.
For the T-Cross, we’d also recommend the 1.0-litre engine with 115hp. You can choose from automatic or manual gears, and it’ll also get you around 50mpg.

Inside a VW SUV is a nice place to be. Both the Taigo and T-Cross are comfortable and spacious, with plenty of driver’s seat adjustment options.
There’s plenty of tech as well. The Taigo brings an infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus built-in sat nav in Style or R-Line trims.
The T-Cross gets the same size screen as standard with CarPlay and Auto, but you can upgrade to a larger 9.2-inch screen as an extra across the range.
Interior styling has improved in both cars over the years, and the latest models have fewer scratchy plastics. They feel much more luxurious and are catching up with luxe models like the BMW X3.
Taigo vs. T-Cross: boot space and practicality

SUVs are usually a top pick for motorists looking for space and practicality, and both these VW options do well.
The Taigo has a 440-litre boot at the rear that can extend to 1,222 litres if you fold the seats.
That’s not far behind the T-Cross and its 455-litre boot that jumps to 1,281 litres with the seats down. Both options have more than enough space for typical family life, a few backpacks and gym bags, or suitcases.
You won’t be cramped inside either, but the T-Cross is slightly smaller (though not by much).

You expect reliability from a VW SUV and both these cars deliver. They’re safe and dependable with a high-quality build.
To put a number on it, the Taigo scored a full five-star Euro NCAP safety rating in 2022. The T-Cross scored the same in 2019, with an impressive 97% adult occupant rating.
Both cars get safety features like lane-keep assist systems, blind spot monitoring and parking sensors.
They’re reliable as well, with all new VW models getting a three-year warranty from brand-new.
Reviews and comments in the forums are positive for both models, but parts and repairs might be slightly more expensive due to the premium quality of the cars.

Comparing the Taigo vs. T-Cross is a tricky spot to be in – both cars are quality family vehicles with loads of appeal.
The Taigo tends to be cheaper than the T-Cross, so you might be tempted by those savings, but the T-Cross does feel the more practical option.
Then again, we’d recommend the Taigo if you want a more stylish and elegant SUV.
