Vauxhall Corsa insurance group ratings

Insurance groups are a good guide to the cost of car insurance, but personal factors can also have a big effect on the final price.

Things like the cost of the car, safety features, speed and performance, and security features are all considered when sorting into insurance groups.

Groups range from one to 50, with the lower groups being the cheapest to insure.

Vauxhall Corsa insurance groups (2006 – 2014)

Early models of the Vauxhall Corsa can still be found on the used market, sorted into insurance groups one to 26.

The entry-level models with small engines are the cheapest to insure. The 1.0 12V ecoFlex Expression model sits in group one, while the 1.0- 12V Life models are in group two.

At the top end of the scale are the 1.6T 16V DRi models in group 26, with the 1.7 CDTi SRi around the middle in group 16.

There are plenty of different Corsas dotted from insurance groups one to 26, but all are relatively inexpensive to insure.

Vauxhall Corsa insurance groups (2020 onwards)

Corsa models from 2020 onwards can also be cheap to insure. They range from insurance groups 10 to 26, so prices start slightly higher than the older versions.

The 1.2 Turbo Hybrid Ultimate e-DCT6 model will be the most expensive to insure in group 26.

Cheaper options include the SE 1.2 models, which tend to sit around group 10.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR insurance groups

The Corsa VXR was a more performance-focused variant of the popular Vauxhall hatchback. Because of its extra power, it is pricier to insure.

VXR models from 2015 to 2018 are in insurance group 30, while the previous-gen ranges from 30 to 34.

Most affordable Corsa models and engines to insure

The cheapest Corsas to insure will typically be the ones with the smallest engines that are the cheapset to buy, so you’ll want to opt for an entry-level pick to keep running costs low.

Look for 1.0-litre engines on SE, SE Edition, and Design models, and avoid turbocharged examples to keep insurance costs down.

If you’re choosing an older Corsa (from 2006 to 2014), the 1.0-litre Expression and Life models are some of the best options.

Average Corsa insurance cost for young drivers

Car insurance is typically more expensive for younger drivers because insurers view those with less driving experience as a higher risk.

It’s also impossible to know how much Corsa car insurance for young drivers will cost without getting a personalised quote from your provider.

Things that can impact the cost of car insurance include:

  • Driving experience – newer drivers are seen as higher risk

  • Driving history – previous insurance claims can mean you pay more

  • Annual mileage – covering lots of miles makes you more of a risk

  • Type of car – you might want to stay away from the Corsa VXR as a new driver, as these are pricier to insure

How Corsa insurance prices compare

The Vauxhall Corsa isn’t the only popular hatchback on the market, so here’s how it stacks up against its rivals for insurance prices.

Renault Clio vs. Vauxhall Corsa

Renault Clios usually sit in insurance groups 3 to 29, so start just slightly higher than the Corsa but cover a similar range.

All in all, prices for a Clio will be pretty similar to Corsa insurance, with the 1.0-litre engines of both models being the cheapest to get covered.

Peugeot 208 vs. Vauxhall Corsa

Peugeot 208 models are likely to cost around the same to insure as Corsas, as they range from insurance groups 5 to 28.

SEAT Ibiza vs. Vauxhall Corsa

SEAT Ibiza models from 2017 onwards range from insurance groups two to 19, so could be cheaper than the Corsa (from 2020 onwards) to insure.

This will depend on which model you choose. We recommend comparing apples to apples, so look at the 1.0-litre options from both brands to be sure.
