The UK’s best-selling cars to buy in 2025
From the Ford Puma to the VW Golf, here are the UK's best-selling cars you should consider this year
We all like to keep good company. When you choose your next car, why not pick one of the UK's top sellers?
According to SMMT data, the cars on this list were the most popular newly registered cars that topped the UK’s sales charts in 2024, meaning they're the ones to pick in 2025.
If you’re looking for a used car – whether it’s a supermini, crossover, SUV or electric family car – take a pick from these firm favourites.
Ford Puma – 45,538 sales
Topping the list is the Ford Puma, which is the brand's new-ish crossover SUV that’s taken the Fiesta’s crown as the best-selling car in the UK.
With more space and a higher driving position than its Puma predecessor and Ford’s now-discontinued supermini, the Puma’s a sensible used car choice for families and working professionals alike.

Nissan Juke – 32,482 sales
Being the baby brother to a very successful (Qashqai) sibling, the Nissan Juke should probably struggle to get noticed, but this isn’t the case.
In fact, the Juke sells incredibly well and offers a more compact driving experience, which makes it easier for a lot of people to live with – especially if you live in a town or city.

VW Golf – 30,964 sales
Considering it's been out since 1974, we'd be stunned if the VW Golf didn't make this list.
It's been popular in this country as long as the humble steak pie has, offering plenty of boot space, practicality and impressive driving dynamics.
Plus, with sporty GTI and R versions, there's plenty of choice on offer – both new and used.

Tesla Model Y – 27,697 sales
Being the only electric car on this list, the Tesla Model Y has a lot to live up to, but thankfully it’s one of the best EVs you can buy.
When you consider its long 310-mile range, huge amounts of tech and practicality, it’s hard to ignore.
Joining it on the SMMT’s list of best-selling EVs are the MG4, Audi Q4 e-tron, Tesla Model 3, Polestar 2, VW ID.3, Kia Niro EV, BMW i4, VW ID.4 and Skoda Enyaq iV.
VW Polo – 27,674
Sitting below the Golf is the VW Polo – a nippy, efficient and practical hatchback.
